Book a tableIn the quiet village of Cammachmore, just metres from the North Sea, 70-year-old former captain and master mariner, Nalin of Srilankan heritage has brought new life to legendary Cammies — a once-closed restaurant reborn as a rare voice for Scotland’s local seafood. After decades at sea, his respect for the ocean has inspired a bold mission: to reintroduce people to the rich marine treasures available at their doorstep and challenge Scotland’s surprising indifference to seafood.
At Cammies, the menu celebrates the North Sea’s rich harvest, yet not readily available to the consumer— from skate wings, brown crab, lobster, variety of molluscs including razor clams and seasonal sardines, and mackerel to whole fish including head to tail cooked with global flair. Blending his Sri Lankan heritage with international influences, Nalin transforms humble local ingredients into vibrant dishes, showcasing their health, sustainability, and cultural value.
With passion and persistence, he is quietly shaping a new seafood culture in Aberdeenshire, reminding the community that the North Sea is both a gift and a responsibility. The best restaurant near Aberdeen! We have been to many places, but this restaurant is the best of the dozens that we visited in Scotland. The shrimps and mussels were great!
